Buyer summary

The billet-to-bar route converts a controlled steel heat and semi-finished section into a bar that meets the buyer's grade, dimensions, condition and inspection requirements. Each production stage must remain connected to the approved order specification.

Melting and chemistry planning

The grade and governing standard establish the chemistry target. Raw-material selection, melting practice, sampling and analysis should follow the approved quality plan.

Refining and billet casting

Refining brings the heat within the required composition and process controls. The steel is then cast into the planned billet section, identified by heat or batch and cooled under the applicable route.

Billet preparation and reheating

Billets are inspected and conditioned as required before reheating. Furnace practice should prepare the section for rolling while controlling temperature, scale and material identity.

Rolling, sizing and cooling

Successive rolling passes reduce and shape the billet into the target round, flat or square section. Sizing, controlled cooling, straightening and cutting decisions depend on product, grade and delivery condition.

Inspection and dispatch

Final checks can include dimensions, identification, surface condition, chemistry and mechanical properties, plus agreed non-destructive testing. Records, MTC requirements, packaging and delivery instructions must match the purchase order.
